In September 1976 only four platforms were still in use at Liverpool Exchange station. The platforms are shown to good effect in this view from that time. Also shown are the class 502 EMUs and a class 108 DMU which were the only passenger trains that could be seen at this time. EMUs worked services to both Southport and Ormskirk whilst DMUs worked to Bolton.
