In July 1967 a Glasgow Central service departs from Liverpool Exchange station. The steam locomotive would have worked the service as far as Preston where a diesel would have taken over. This Stanier Black Five entered service in December 1948 having been built to Stanier's LMS design at Horwich works. Classified 5MT, it lasted only 18 years when it was withdrawn from 8A, Edge Hill Shed on 31.8.1966 and scrapped by Buttigiegs, Newport in March, 1968.
