In July 1973 black-and-white ‘Corporate Identity’ nameplates were installed. The BR(NE) tangerine running-in board provides the correct spelling of the name. Inexplicably the new signs used two words (as in the parish name). The author was probably not alone in bringing this error to BR’s attention, and a few months later they were replaced with ‘Longbenton’ signs.
