Looking east along the up platform at Longton Bridge station in August 1964 as 1F57 the 10:35 am Saturdays-only Glasgow to Southport Chapel Street train passes through. This train hauled by an
ex-LMS Stanier 4MT locomotive number 42662 would not have stopped at Longton Bridge. To the right the brick-built waiting shelter that served Southport-bound passengers can be seen. This 2-6-4 tank was built at Derby works of the LMS in 1941. It entered service on 10.6.1941 numbered 2662. It received the BR(M) 4 prefix in 1948 when at 10C, Patricroft then in July 1955, it was allocated to 6H Bangor before returning to Patricroft in the October. April 1960 saw it at 24A Accrington for 2 months before finally moving to 27C, Southport, being withdrawn on 12.12.1964 and broken up in July 1965 by Wards, Beighton.
