Station Name: LUDDENDENFOOT

Probably in very early BR days, an ex-LYR Class 27 0-6-0 LMS No.12231 is seen hauling a passenger train over the Luddendenfoot water troughs. She is carrying express headlamps and the train identification code on her smokebox suggests a relief or excursion train. Her train is worth noting, being quite lengthy for a diminutive 0-6-0 on a route with several notable gradients. The train appears to be comprised entirely of Stanier Period III corridor stock, the first vehicle having the LMS lettering on its gangway doors. No.12231 became BR No.52231 in February 1949 and was withdrawn in November 1952. Her service life was a commendable 58 years 5 months but this was typical of many simple, rugged 0-6-0 types across the country.
