Station Name: LUDGATE HILL

[Source: Nick Catford]

Looking west along Pilgrim Street in the first decade of the 20th century. The north end of Ludgate Hill station is seen on the left just before the bridge. An exit from the station came out onto Pilgrim Street. This exit was preferred by many City workers as it was the closest exit to Ludgate Hill. Today the scene has changed completely. The bridge has gone and the level of Pilgrim Street to the east of the former bridge has been raised to accommodate a new office development. To the west of the bridge steps lead down to the original road level. The railway line still runs through the site at a lower level beneath the office development. Although the bridge has gone bridge plates indicate its position.
