Station Name: MANCHESTER CENTRAL

[Source: Paul Wright]

Outside of the trainshed a Black 5 waits to depart for Cheadle Heath from platform 9, one of the platforms that was added to the station in 1905. By June 1966 when this picture was taken most services to Cheadle Heath were worked by DMUs but the occasional service was still steam hauled. On the left of the picture adjacent to the trainshed stands a Birmingham Railway Carriage and Wagon Company (BRCW) built DMU which would have been working a Buxton service.
