Station Name: MARCHWOOD

The door to the lamp room, a separate hut near the Totton end of the station building, seen here on 1 November 2014. At the bottom, what began life as a 'No Smoking' sign has faded to the point where only the cigarette remains visible. At the top, the Staff Only totem is a sticker and only seven or eight inches wide. The Emergency Operating Equipment sign refers to equipment used when, for example, there is a signalling failure. The sign is fixed to a Crittall window of the style once seen almost anywhere and commonly on 1920s/30s houses. In this case the glass is reinforced with wire mesh.
