Station Name: NEWSHAM

On 13 December 1972 demolition is under way at Newsham. This view looks south-eastwards along the remains of the down platform on the Bedlington line; only the waiting shelter, seen on the extreme right, survives. The face up platform has been demolished in the foreground and the south-eastern end cut back; its buildings have been almost entirely demolished, and timber from them is being burned. A railwayman in a ‘hi-vis’ jacket and hard hat is admiring his achievements.
