low_level_old3.jpg) Northallerton shed c.1958. The emergency platform can just be seen to the left of the shed. The loco in the right shed is a K1/1. This is a Peppercorn modified Thompson K1 2-6-0 mogul. These were built 1949/50 at North British Loco Co. One of the main differences shown here is the cut away running plate in front of the cylinders, this was to ease access to steam chests. They also had rocking grates, hopper ash pans and were fitted with larger 4200 gallon tenders. The two locos outside are an Ivatt Class 2 Mogul, nicknamed a 'Micky Mouse' and the one next to it is a BR standard class 2, a design based on the Ivatt class 2.
