Station Name: PALLION (First site)

Looking east at Pallion station in summer 1977. In recent years the buildings on this platform – the ‘down’ one for Sunderland-bound trains – have been demolished, and the footbridge at the far end of the station has been removed. On the down platform the station house is intact as is the former station office/waiting room, which is now screened by a brick wall. The chimney and cooling tower of the, by then, disused Sunderland power station are visible, with the chimney of the Beach Street
incinerator to their left.
