Station Name: PALLION (First site)

[Source: Alan Young]

In August 1978 Pallion is the end of the line. The buffer stops are on the surviving up line a short distance west of Pallion station, the down line having already been lifted. Goods traffic beyond here, to Hylton quarry, ceased in 1971 but the line was not officially taken out of use until 1976. The station building can be seen on the up platform. It is hard to believe that Deltics, A4s and Pacifics once thundered past this point. Although a large trading estate was built here- just visible on the right - bizarrely there were no loading facilities for rail traffic.
