Station Name: PENWORTHAM (COP LANE)

Fairburn 2-6-4T No. 42158, which has been at Lostock Hall since new and a mainstay of passenger services on the WLR, draws to a halt at Penwortham [Cop lane] with the 10.12 am Preston-Southport in order to collect a handful of waiting seaside excursionists.  Note the lengthier than usual rake of stock, at times necessary during such peak summer periods, even though the line has only three weeks to live. Built at Derby works just after nationalisation, this Fairburn tank entered service on 2.7.1948. It was withdrawn from Lostock Hall on 24.4.1965 and scrapped by Cashmores of Great Bridge by the end of that August.
