Station Name: RAMSBOTTOM

Looking north towards Ramsbottom shortly after 19th April 1970. Close observation shows that the line on which the photographer is standing is rusty and out of use. With effect from 19th April 1970 the line from Bury to Rawtenstall became single track. The redundant line remained in situ for a short period before it was lifted. To the left the rails are well polished. This line had become bi-directional and at this date carried passenger shuttles that ran between Bury and Rawtenstall and coal trains that served a coal depot at Rawtenstall. The goods shed which stood backed on to the northbound platform has gone and the sidings on the right have been lifted.
