On 20th April 1872 plans were approved for a pair of brick staff cottages at Derwent Lane, near to the later Rowsley South Junction. These were erected in the following year, the same design subsequently being used for cottages on the Settle & Carlisle line. This view of the cottages was taken in March 1981. To the right was the A6 trunk road, and to the left the main railway line.
