ROWSLEY SIDINGS

[Source: Paul Wright]

The northern end of Rowsley Sidings, taken from the embankment beside the A6 road. The two main lines are in the foreground, while the wagons are on the North End shunting neck. The building with the sloped roof in the centre is the pumping house. This was built by the MBM&MJR and was contemporary with the Leawood Pumping station near Cromford, although much smaller. It contained equipment, which in times of shortage, allowed water to be pumped from the River Derwent to keep the water columns filled.
