Site of bridge over A6 from the same viewpoint as the 1965 picture below. Notice firstly that the bridge has been completely removed, including the abutments, and the embankment trimmed back on either side. Also notice that the level of the A6 road has been raised in the intervening years, to alleviate flooding. This is the most substantial physical barrier to rebuilding the line to Bakewell although the three minor road overbridges on the OS map beyond Rowsley viaduct have also been demolished.
