Station Name: SHAWFORTH

Looking south along Market Street (A671) in January 2016. The sloping track on the right led up to the coal yard at Shawforth station. A Rosso bus on the 464 route from Rochdale to Accrington is approaching, the service which more-or-less duplicates the old railway route from Rochdale to Bacup (passenger service suspended 1947 and closed 1949) and Bacup to Rawtenstall (closed 1966). In the bus shelter the poster reads, ‘Do you need local rail or bus information?’ The ‘local rail’ information is, quite simply, that there has been no local rail at Shawforth for about 70 years.
