Station Name: SHAWFORTH

About a quarter of a mile north of the site of Shawforth station the former Rochdale – Bacup railway ran close to Market Street (A671) carried high above the road on a stone retaining wall. The wall is seen here, looking west across Market Street in January 2016 near the junction with Freeholds Road. The significance of the small arch under the railway is not known; nor is the reason why two sheep are grazing on the pocket handkerchief-sized lawn!
