Station Name: SHAWFORTH

Looking west on School Street towards the site of Shawforth station in January 2016. Beyond the huge stone retaining wall there is now a residential estate; the site immediately beyond the wall was formerly occupied by the ‘throat’ siding that served the coal yard. The break in the wall to the right and the stone staircase possibly gave access to the station coal yard, but no evidence of it is seen on old maps.
