Station Name: SHAWFORTH

Looking south in January 2016 towards the site of Shawforth station. The northern ends of the passenger platforms were located where the houses block the view about 100yd ahead. The photographer is standing on the site of the double-track  ‘running lines’ and the coal yard sidings were formerly to the left, at a lower level – the steep 1 in 40 gradient of the running lines from the station is preserved in the topography of the ground here. The sign refers to the railway route’s modern role as a bridleway, cycle track and footpath, and it carries names of four former stations.
