The south portal of the 70yd- long Ashwell's Tunnel in 1904; Sherwood station is behind the photographer. The timber buffer stop on the right is the end of the headshunt for the transfer sidings with the Nottingham Patent Brick Company line. Note the white-painted brickwork behind the signal to aid visibility in the approach cutting.
