On 24 December 1977, viewed from the footbridge at the end of Hunters Road, a class 101 DMU rounds the curve on its way from South Gosforth to Longbenton. To the right of the tall South Gosforth (East) are the Gosforth car sheds. South Gosforth colliery formerly occupied the area in the centre of the photograph where there are now industrial units, and until the late 1960s there were sidings here.
