Working a pick-up/branch freight is 8301, a 2-4-2T built for the GER to a Stephen Holden design. Only two out of a class of 12 survived through the LNER years to nationalisation and these were withdrawn in November 1948. This train is heading north through the up platform at St Boswells (wrong line).
