Stanmore Village Station Gallery 5:
March 1969 - April 2007

Stanmore Village station concourse in March 1969. Note all the tiles that were stolen from the roof. This would have substantially contributed to the deterioration of the building. When the building was refurbished as a house the following year the part of the building seen here was not included and
it was demolished. Photo

The blocked ticket window inside the Stanmore Village station building in March 1969. In later years all of the doors and windows were blocked to deter vandals but the ticket window might have been blocked when the building was in use to store potatoes. Photo

One siding ran between the goods shed and the platform road; it served coal bins that were sited in the centre of this view. In later years, coal was the only goods traffic still handled at the station. There were two sets of coal bins; the other set flanked a siding running along the eastern elevation of the goods shed. Both sets of bins had been demolished by this time. Photo

The newly completed 'conversion' of the station building into a house in December 1973. The ecclesiastical style of entrance has been retained although the doors are assumed to be replacements. The stone window frames and the unusual quatrefoil window have also been retained; all of the brickwork is new. The sign top the right of the building indicates that the house is for sale. At that time the new house was sold for £16,500. The new owner did not stay there long. In 1978 two garages were converted into bedrooms and the station building was once again for sale with an
asking price of £48,950. Photo
