At the west end of Stockport Tiviot Dale Station the line went into a tunnel. During the construction of the M60 motorway the tunnel was accidently damaged. The damage resulted in train services being suspended. The line never re-opened. This view from April 2010 shows the tunnel which at this date had been filled almost up to roof level.
