Looking north towards Stubbins station from the site of the Stubbins Junction in 1983. Stubbins Junction was the point at which the routes for Accrington and Bacup diverged. The Accrington line passed behind the platform that can be seen to the left. Stubbins station had no platforms on the Accrington line. The Bacup line passed through the station. The platform to right was the southbound platform that was used by trains travelling towards Bury. The platform to the left was the down (to Bacup) platform until 1970 after which it became bi-directional as the line was singled. It was shorter than the southbound platform. In 1983 the line was officially closed to all traffic.
