Station Name: STUBBINS

Looking north along the southbound platform at Stubbins station in February 1983. Passengers wishing to travel northbound towards Bacup had to walk the entire length of this platform to gain access to a subway that connected to the northbound platform which is seen to the left. The southbound platform was taken out of use in 1970 when the line through the station was singled and the northbound platform became bi-directional. The northbound platform was shorter than the southbound because the Stubbins Junction had been located just to the left of the photographer. The junction was the point at which the Bacup and Accrington lines diverged. The Accrington line passed behind the
northbound platform.
