X2 class 957 is seen in the Sudbury Goods yard around the turn of the 20th century. 957 was built in 1897 to a Holden design for the GER. Holden modified Worsdells GER popular and successful Y14 (J15) design to produce this N31, (LNER J14) but the design was not a success and withdrawals started as early as 1908, 957 being withdrawn in 1909. Only eighteen of the class passed into LNER service and the rest were withdrawn by the end of 1925.
