Sunderland station looking north in June 1962. The removal of the bomb-damaged trainshed and installation of glass-and-steel verandahs between 1944 and 1953 has allowed more light onto the platforms. The ramps in the foreground lead down from the entrance building constructed
in 1953 on Athenæum Street.
