Station Name: SWAFFHAM PRIOR

[Source: Darren Kitson]

The former Allix Arms public house on Station Road. It ceased trading in 1975 and it is said that one former landlord was also a local coal merchant. The level crossing was a few yards to the left. Today the station is well hidden by trees and the site of the level crossing is not immediately obvious. At the time of writing there is a patch on the road surface looking suspiciously like the making-good after removal of the rails, but the rails were removed half a century ago so the patch is more likely to be a more recent repair and nothing to do with the former railway.
