By the early 1970s the branch line trackbed was in a sorry state with weeds nearly reaching platform level. The GWR patterned platform edging tiles still look as good as the day they were laid

A generally run down station clinging on with only a handful of services per day was certainly not the corporate image being projected on other parts of the railway network at this point.

Looking in the Wolverhampton direction on 5 November 2016, some comfort must be taken that there is some form of railway running through the site although heavy rail would certainly have been a better addition to the West Midlands network.
