Skew Bridge over Leeds Road to the south of Tadcaster station in April 1967. A councillor in the early 1960s found himself on the front page of Tadcaster News saying that Skew Bridge must go because of frequent bridge strikes by lorries, and that the railway must not be closed. The markings on the bridge showing the extent of the 15' 0" headroom shows why lorries stuck under the bridge were common. In the twelve months to 31 January1967, there were eleven accidents, in which
six people were slightly injured.
