The façade of Tynemouth station, looking north in June 1969. The restrained elegance of the architecture is apparent, with symmetrical pavilions in the foreground and the rear, and a dignified central block resembling its neighbour at Cullercoats – also an 1882 station. Other features of interest are the ‘Lombard’ windows and the iron cresting along the summit of the roof.
