This view c1973 southwards on the up platform enables us to appreciate its great length which enabled it to accommodate the longest excursion trains. The vast expanse of glazed roofing is also worthy of note. By this time the northern bays (left foreground) are disused, and the there are insufficient staff to maintain the ornamental plant pots in the manner to which the station was accustomed.
