Station Name: TYNEMOUTH (4th)

Tynemouth didn't close during conversion to Metro and is included for completeness

A class 104 DMU in a southern bay platform at Tynemouth station on 10 August 1980. The bay platforms were rarely in use by the 1970s as few trains began or finished their journeys at Tynemouth, and such trains generally approached Tynemouth from the north; and excursion traffic had all but dried up. The overhead electric wiring is in place on the through platforms, and a Metro train can be seen in the background in the final week of ‘Metro trials’.
