Looking north from the up platform at Tynemouth station in January 1998. The ironwork of the barrier with its fleur-de-lis crests and of the supports for the platform roofing can be admired. This platform has been extended forwards taking advantage of the trackbed formerly occupied by four tracks. A result of this is to make the footbridge look asymmetrical, the crest of its gentle curve now being above the platform rather than over the tracks.
