Looking south from the footbridge at Tynemouth station in May 2012. The excellent restoration of the glazed ridge-and-furrow roofing with its hipped ends and of the decorated valances is a source of great pleasure. The reproduction ‘gas’ lamps may be unrealistically tall if they are intended to look Victorian, but they are infinitely preferable to the hideous lamps installed by BR Eastern Region in the 1970s.
