Enthusiasts wait on the down platform at Upwey and Broadwey station in the 1960s to catch a glimpse of O.V.Bulleid's West Country Pacific, 34056 named 'Croydon'. Emerging from Southern Railway's Brighton works in February 1947, this loco first carried the number 21C156 and had Bulleid's air smoothed casing. It was rebuilt at Eastleigh with Walschaerts valve gear in January 1960 and lasted in service until May of 1967, when it was withdrawn from 70E, Salisbury shed and broken up by Cashmores of Newport in September that year.
