Station Name: USWORTH

Looking north from the northern end of Usworth station. Although the platforms and buildings were demolished by the mid 1970s the signal box remained in use. This view dates from the 1990s, after the line had been ‘mothballed’ and the signal box abandoned. Renewal of the tarmac surface of the road level crossing eventually made the railway lines unusable here, but it is not clear if this state of affairs applied at the time of the photograph.
