In August 1956 schoolboys admire an engine drawing a southbound passenger train at Washington. At this time the only daytime southbound was at 8.55am, which terminated here. This is an LNER V3, 2-6-2T built in 1940 and numbered 398. Renumbered in 1946 to 7689, it was then renumbered once more on passing from the LNER to BR in 1948 to 67689. It was withdrawn from 64B, Haymarket shed, on 29 December 1962 and scrapped during September of the following year.
