A Metro train calls at the down platform of West Monkseaton on 15 August 1998. The original timber platforms have been demolished and the replacements are about half the length. The LNER shelter on the up platform has been retained, and a similar one has been constructed on the down platform for the Metro service. The LNER waiting sheds have been removed.
