Station Name: WIDNES CENTRAL

[Source: Paul Wright]

Looking towards the west at the site of Widnes Central Station during the construction of Ashley Way in February 1984. The Station was located on the far side of Victoria Road which is in the foreground. The east end of the platforms would have been roughly where the lamp columns can be seen stacked up on the newly constructed road which follows exactly the course of the railway but at a much lower elevation. Originally the line had crossed Victoria Road by a bridge and the station was situated on an embankment but by the date of the photograph the only evidence of this site having been a railway location is the sleeper in the foreground
