Baynards Station: Gallery 2: 1961 - 13.6.1965

Another view of the film crew at Baynards station which was renamed Valleywood. The film was released in 1962 so this view would have been 1961. The loco is Drummond M7 30124 which was withdrawn from Guildford shed in May 1961.

Signal Geoff Burdfield at Baynards station in 1965. Geoff and his family lived in the station house. When the station closed he became signalman at Billingshurst. Geoff was well known for growing dahlias at the station. The loco is a Bullied Q1 built in July 1942 at Ashford Works and numbered C27. She was renumbered 33027 under BR in July 1948 and at this time was allocated to Guildford shed. She was withdrawn from Guildford 9 January 1966.

Ivatt Class 2MT 2-6-2T 41287 waits at Baynards station with a northbound passenger train shortly before closure of the line. She was withdrawn from Eastleigh shed on 17 July 1966.

The 18:50 Guildford to Horsham service was the last scheduled passenger train in that direction at Baynards on 12 June 1965. There was a special after the last scheduled service and a railtour the following day. The loco as a regular on the branch and Ivatt 2MT. 41287 was built at Crewe Works entering service in November 1950. After a service life of only 15 years and 8 months she was withdrawn from Eastleigh Shed on 17 July 1966 and scrapped at Cohens at Morriston in November that year.

The LCGB The Wealdsman Railtour at Baynards station on 13 June 1965, the day after the line closed. The tour started at Waterloo running to Horsham, Three Bridges, Hastings, Eastbourne, Haywards Heath, Shoreham before returning to Horsham for the last leg to Guildford and back to Waterloo. On this leg it was double headed by 33027 and 33006, two Bullied Q1s seen here at Baynards for a 15 minute stop at 19.24

Q1 33027 leads Q1 33006 the LCGB The Wealdsman Railtour at Baynards station on 13 June 1965. The previous day 33006 hauled the REC Guildford - Horsham Farewell Tour a special run after the last service train on last day of Guildford - Horsham service. The special ran from Guildford - Horsham and back to Guildford.
