Stanmore Village Station Gallery 4:
February 1968 - June 1968

Stanmore Village station looking south from the buffers in February 1968. Judging by the asbestos strewn over the platform and track it is assumed that much of the platform beneath the canopy was used to store to ducting that was removed by the last train to depart from the station
on 21 August 1964.

Internal view of the goods shed that was gutted by fire after closure of the goods yard in 1964. Little was left other than the brick shell of the building.

Stanmore Village goods shed in February 1968. This side of the shed was for road vehicles with a small timber canopy provided for weather protection. The station building is seen on the far right. The building with a curved corrugated metal roof was a bicycle store with an oil store next to it.

The delightful station building still looked in fair condition externally in March 1968 although some tiles are missing from the roof of the tower. The entrance portico in front of the door was removed shortly after closure to passengers in 1952 as was the clock which has left a mark on the brickwork above the door. A post collection box was provided from the opening of the station. The box remained in use until April 1970; at that time it still showed 'LMS Station' on the location plate.

Inside the main entrance the church-like door was secured but it failed to stop the vandals from getting in. The station building was in very poor condition internally.
