Buncrana station looking north in the 1890s. Since opening in 1864 the station had been the northern terminus of the L&LSR line from Derry/Londonderry but after 19xx it would become a through station on the line to Carndonagh. This view shows the station in its original form. Coaches are being propelled into the platform presumably to operate a service to Londonderry Graving Dock.

For the opening of the extension to Carndonagh in 19xx the station facilities at Buncrana were significantly expanded. An additional platform was added (called the Carndonagh platform) and it can be see in this view from 19 April 1948. Waiting to depart is a train for Londonderry Graving Dock.
