Londonderry Graving Dock looking south-west on 19 April 1948. Waiting to depart on a train for Buncrana is L&LSR x.x.0 locomotive number 10. Graving Dock had never been a particularly attractive station and by this date it had lost most of its roof.

At this time Graving Dock was not served by passenger trains which ran to and from Londonderry Middle Quay. It was however used by goods trains. The station reopened for passenger services on 1 January 1888.

Although Strand Road follows its original alignment it is much wider than it was when the railway was in existence. The station had occupied the ground to the left of the traffic island.
